How Discovery Offshore Ltd collects, uses and protects personal data.
Effective date: 2nd November 2026
1. Who we are
Discovery Offshore Ltd (company number 16089550, registered in England and Wales) is a shipbroker for offshore support vessels. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us about anything in it at mark@discoveryoffshore.com.
This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
2. Data we collect
We work business to business, so the personal data we hold is mostly business contact information:
- Contact details: name, company, job title, business email address and phone number.
- Correspondence: emails, messages and call notes about enquiries, vessels, charters, sales and projects.
- Contract and invoicing records: the details needed to agree fixtures, issue invoices and collect commission.
We don't knowingly collect sensitive personal data, and we don't take payments through this website.
3. How we collect it
- Directly from you, when you email or call us, or send an enquiry. The enquiry form on this website opens an email in your own email app; nothing you type into it is stored on the website.
- From counterparties and co-brokers, when your details are passed to us as part of a requirement, offer or negotiation.
- From public sources such as company websites, industry directories and LinkedIn.
4. The website
This website doesn't use cookies and doesn't use analytics or advertising tracking.
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical information such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. The site's font is loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when you visit.
5. How we use your data, and our lawful basis
- To respond to your enquiries and provide brokerage services. Lawful basis: taking steps to enter into, or performing, a contract with you or the company you work for, and our legitimate interests in running our business.
- To send you vessel requirements, vessel availability and market information relevant to your business. Lawful basis: legitimate interests. You can ask us to stop at any time and we will.
- To issue invoices, collect commission and keep business records. Lawful basis: contract and legal obligation (for example, tax and accounting rules).
- To comply with sanctions, anti-money laundering and other legal requirements. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
6. Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal data. We share it only where needed:
- With owners, charterers, buyers, sellers and co-brokers involved in a requirement or transaction, as part of normal brokerage work.
- With the service providers we rely on to run the business, such as email, cloud storage and CRM providers, and our website host.
- With our accountants and professional advisers.
- With authorities, where the law requires it.
7. International transfers
Our work is international, so personal data may be shared with counterparties outside the UK, and some of our service providers store data outside the UK. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we rely on a UK adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or standard contractual clauses with the UK addendum, or on the transfer being necessary to perform a contract.
8. How long we keep it
We keep business correspondence and contact details for as long as we have an active working relationship, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case of follow-up contracts or claims. Contract, invoicing and accounting records are kept for at least six years after the end of the relevant financial year, as required by UK law.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including secure, access-controlled email and storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
10. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- delete your data;
- restrict how we use your data;
- transfer your data to another organisation, where this applies;
- stop using your data, including for vessel and market information.
To make a request, email mark@discoveryoffshore.com. We'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be on this page, with the date it took effect.
